Return to in-person instruction in the upcoming summer semester 2022

15.02.2022

Dear students, staff, and lecturers at the Institute of Sociology,

The lecture period of the current winter semester is now over. We would like to thank you all for your participation in numerous online offerings, as well as for your involvement in several hybrid and face-to-face events that took place during the past semester. Although we had hoped and prepared for better attendance than was ultimately possible, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude for your understanding of this situation and your flexibility with regard to changing instruction formats. This thanks also extends explicitly to the lecturers of the Institute of Sociology, who have again made every effort to make optimal and creative use of the possibilities provided by hybrid and digital teaching formats under the current conditions.

We are now looking forward to the upcoming summer semester of 2022 with hope. Although the situation and general conditions in the spring and summer are not yet predictable, we are currently assuming that universities will be able to return, to a large extent, to in-person instruction. The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Social Sciences has therefore decided that there will be a return to in-person instruction in the upcoming summer semester, under consideration of the legal requirements. Where appropriate or necessary, hybrid formats may also be offered. Individual restrictions on the part of instructors and/or students resulting from a particular hazard will continue to be handled with flexibility on an individual basis.

The governing body of the Institute of Sociology has also consulted extensively on this matter. Our wish is, if possible, for everyone - students and instructors alike – to return to the university in the summer semester and thus return to in-person instruction as the norm. Individual restrictions of both lecturers and students due to heightened vulnerability and/or particular life situations will be considered for hybrid or online formats. The respective course format will be announced in the LSF course catalog by 01.03.2022.

Please make arrangements and preparations for in-person instruction in the upcoming summer semester. We will inform you of any changes to the situation.

We wish you all the best for the upcoming exams and a relaxing semester break.

Yours,

Prof. Dr. Katrin Auspurg

On behalf of the governing body of the Institute of Sociology
